Definitely not easy to merge, even though I'm not sure of the extent of your
changes for layout.  I don't think I changed the API, but I use stretchy
space between icons now, and I think tiling is simpler.  The internal
datasource and bindings stuff would also cause difficulty.

The icon/caching changes would be straightforward to merge, by comparison.
In fact, I had most of that done last summer, but never checked it in since
I didn't have time to fully test it.  I've still got that sitting around,
but it looks to be missing at least FVCoreTextIcon (an attempt to work
around ATS memory corruption) and the fv_zone stuff.
