I don’t understand what you mean by “there is no bulk editing, apart from AppleScript.” The search-and-replace functions in BibDesk still seem to work as before.

I'm talking about the linked files/URLs in the side pane. THere is no built-in bulk editing like Database Find and Replace for those. Only AppleScript.

I feel that I am not understanding your point.

If I download a group of citations that contain “stable URLs”, as JSTOR calls them, I have to convert these to the proxy versions in order to download the PDFs. I cannot access the PDFs via the “stable URLs”. It is easy to change the “stable URLs” en masse via search- and-replace as long as the stable URL is in the URL field. Then I need to go to the proxy URL to download the PDF. So I guess I have to individually drag all the revised URLs to the right pane to make them active.

You seem to think there is an easier way to do this, but I don’t understand what you are saying.

Thanks,
Ingrid

When you have the final URLs, you can simply drag and drop them to the side pane. When you have them in fields, you can also convert them to linked URLs in the side pane using the "Convert File and URL Fields" feature from the Database menu. That can also work on selected item.

You can use AppleScript. Generally, you should not have to use the fields anymore, you can add directly to the side pane. Typically you just drag URLs to the side pane. You can modify there using the contextual menu. There is no bulk editing, apart from AppleScript. You really need that, you cannot do that before you add?

So if I copy 50 URLs to 50 My-Remote-URLs, and then fix all 50 en masse, I then have to drag each one by hand to the side pane to make it active? Or is there some other way to do this, when you say not to work this way anymore?

First of all, you're not supposed to work this way anymore. Just add the URL directly in the side pane. You can use the contextual menu or the menu from the little gear icon at the bottom to do that. Otherwise you can drag and drop the string from the field to the side pane.

Also, fields are not automatically converted to attachments when there already are attachments, it's only done once to help you get migrated to the new system.

I am not using nightly builds. I am using Version 1.3.14 (v1008).

I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but could you please explain:

If I copy a set of URL fields into My-Remote-URL and run a
search-and-replace to change the URL to the correct proxy version, how can I make the link be active, or show up in the right-hand pane, or whatever it
 is supposed to do?

 Thanks,
 Ingrid
