It is .lyxpipe.in for LyX 1.6 as well.  The pipe will be recreated if you
quit and relaunch LyX.

Named pipes are a standard UNIX way of doing things, and using multiple
versions allows you to e.g. test LyX 1.5 and LyX 1.6rc3 side-by-side.  In
that case, BibDesk only uses the newest pipe, which should probably be
overridable.
