BTW, I only see the behavior you describe when I uncheck the "switch to space with open windows for the app" in the system prefs. Also, it does switch to the right space when I click the dock item a second time. So this behavior may well be intended by Apple. OTH, I do know that there are various (known) bugs with Spaces switching when activating apps, so it's worth reporting to se what Apple says. And while you're at it, try to tell them that they should give 3rd party apps much more control over Spaces behavior.
