Instead of fixing the error in the plain text editing window, you need to edit it in BibDesk's editor after figuring out the citekey of the offending item. So try this:
1) open in BibDesk 2) double-click the warning line in the error panel 3) see the citekey is Whitta1999Replicas-Fakes-Art 4) close the text editing window 5) find that entry in BibDesk's list 6) double-click it, switch to the "Abstract" tab and fix the problem 7) save, close, and reopenYou can do this all in the plain text editing view, but you need to use the "Reopen" button to see the changes, and it will make a copy of your file.
