The key that allowed checking of filenames for pubmed ids in filenames was
called BDSKShouldUsePubMedMetadataKey.  It was removed in the commit I
mentioned.  There is now only one instance of this string in the project - a
comment in BDSKStringConstants.m that is several years old.  There are/were
several keys that sound similar!

Tom, we didn't notice initially, but this pref is the one that searches the
_whole_ pdf (including filename, title, fulltext) for DOIs and Elsevier/NG
PIIs. It is actually true by default.

But anyway it sounds like you have already solved the problem!
