i) You should declare File a local file field in the Fields preferences. Also you may want to choose whether you want to use linked files, which are special links to files that are more sturdy than just paths, and whether and how you want to convert local file fields by default Local-Url) to linked files. you can do that also in the Fields preferences. You can also use AppleScript to move the fields. ii) There is no automatic cleaning. There are a few features to do specific things, but perhaps you could better ask a more specific question.
