Hank - I agree with Brewster - you should try it to satisfy your
suspicions.
I used to think the derailer length between short to medium mattered
to Campy shifting quality. Now I'm not so sure.
I run a short RD with a 12-23 and a medium with a 12-26.
When shifting is properly adjusted the medium works just as snappily
as the short.
The total capacities for my 12-23 gearing is 27, and for the 12-26
it's 40.
With your 4 tooth difference in the double chainring setup though a
short length RD should work fine.
