I've been using a short cage Chorus 9 with a 14-28 (9) and a 30-40-50 triple crank for years. It's not supposed to work. I never expected it to work, but it shifts better than anything I've ever ridden. If you're curious, I'm using an early eighties Nuovo Record for the front derailleur. Shifts great - on a triple (!). Go figure.
