Being relatively new to the area, I was not around when the weekend
closure of West River was initially implemented. I do have a concern
regarding the rationale behind allowing cars on West River, even though
the road is advertised as "closed".

Even driven at slow speeds, the presence of cars destroys the otherwise
peaceful atmosphere that should prevail on a car-free road. Also, it
would seem that allowing even one car to mix with dozens of skaters,
walkers, bikers, and runners (many of whom are children), would present
a potentially lethal situation. And, from a legal standpoint, if
someone were to be hit by a car, how would that be handled? Is the road
really "closed" if cars are still allowed in? What is the chance of
getting cars off of West River completely on weekends?

Don't get me wrong......I still enjoy the mostly-car free road on the
weekends, and appreciate the efforts of those who made it happen.
