Hi The Bicycle Coalition will be meeting with SEPTA next week to discuss SEPTA's reduction of bike access on regional rail trains.
SEPTA has unilaterally changed the bike rules to 1 bike per car at least during the weekday period, sorry if you are traveling with a friend. We think that they will continue to allow accept reservations for larger groups but we are not yet certain. The current wording for weekend riders of more than two bikes will be allowed is a bit vague and subject to conductor interpretation. SEPTA management probably sees this as a very benign rule clarification. The Bicycle Coalition finds this unacceptable, we view this as an access to jobs issue, we fear that this rule will strand the unfortunate cyclists who depend on bike on rail to get to and from work will be stranded or fired by this archaic rule. We need to put a face on this problem. We would like to document your horror and success stories about taking your bike on the train. Do you use it to get to work? Have you been bumped from a train and were there consequences? Did the conductor know that your group made a reservation? Is there a great bike on rail trip that you have taken? Has the conductor ever gone out of his way to accommodate you? Is taking your bike on the train intimidating for you?. Any help will be greatly appreciated, feel free to write to customer service with your concerns http://www.septa.org/inside/custserv.html. We are working hard to get SEPTA to reverse their decision Thanks John Boyle ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the Bicycle Coalition of the Delaware Valley list named "bike."
