Not to dissuade anyone from doing it themselves, but if making your own studded tires is not your bag, then:
The Nokians cost about $50/tire for any of three different models: the Nokian Hakkapeliitta (106 studs/tire) comes in 26x1.75" or 700x35c sizes, and the Mount & Ground (160 studs) comes in 26x1.9" The Ace Hardware store on Willy St (admittedly not the cheapest place, but certainly the most convenient, and I'm willing to pay more for stores conveniently located in my neighborhood) sold me stainless hardware for about 50 cents/each the last tiime I bought some, making the cost of making your own tire (assuming you can't get hardware at wholesale) not that much less than Nokians. You can see pictures of Nokian tires at http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/studdedtires.asp, but please support your local bike shop! (not that Peter isn't a nice guy, but his shop is kind of inconvenient if you live in Madison and want work done to your bike-keep the local shops thriving.) chuck At 01:23 PM 10/02/2002 -0500, Steve Drake wrote: >I bet the innertube liner would work and would save some ounces.
