Congratulations, John. I have nothing but admiration for the carless among us.
Very cold weather can be danergous. Here are a few things I've done to minimumize the risk. I use a ski mask and balaclava when the temps are below 0 F -- at less than 0 F not the slightest bit of skin is exposed. I also keep an old helmet that I've stripped the internal pads out of. This helmet fits perfectly over a wool skiing cap. I also splurged on a water proof rain suit that is insulated with thinsulate. Such a suit is no good for normal riding conditions because even though it is vented you will get wet with sweat. However, when it is pouring rain or very cold, you can bike less vigorously and make it to work warm and dry. On the coldest of days, it feels like I'm in a space suit. I recall fondly arriving to work in -5 F weather reasonably comfortable. While parking the bike I watched as my frozen co-workers tried to run on the ice from their cars. For me at least, clipless pedals are much better than toe clips for year-round cycling -- especially in winter. -joe -- Joseph King [EMAIL PROTECTED] bombay: www.BombayBicycle.org madnorski: www.MadNorSki.org -- _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
