For those interested in making their own studded tires, a good
web-order source of bulk bolts and other hardware is McMaster-Carr:

  http://www.mcmaster.com

I've used them to buy stainless steel M5 bolts (for mounting water
bottles, fenders, racks, etc) and had no problems. They're
significantly cheaper than buying by the bolt, and they have a much
bigger selection than any hardware store.
