Does anyone know how the "Speeder Hotline" works in Madison? Here is what happened today.
I was walking to the Coop on Willy Street for some lunch. I was in the middle of crossing Baldwin with the walk light on and some guy in a red sporty car pulled right past the stop bar and proceeded to make a right hand turn right in front of me. I got his attention and said " What part of "No Turn on Red" confuses you?" He rolled down his window and said "Who is Dave" referring to my "Dave for Mayor" button. I said "Dave Cieslewicz, he is running for mayor". He said "Good, I will be sure not to vote for him". (Very witty!) I said, " I don't care who you vote for, the stop bar is back there, it is clearly marked, and there is a sign right there that says No Turn on Red." Please back up and let me pass. He rolled up his window. When I tapped on it for him to roll it down again he said "don't touch my car!" So, I went around the front, took out a pen and wrote down his plate number while he waited. The plate is RSG-762, it is a red sports car, two door with a sun roof. He and his 2 passengers made some gestures indicating ( I think) that I am an idiot. And when I moved on to the curb, he turned on red. I called him in on the police message machine. Do you think they will follow up and if so, how? I tried to get his name and address from the WDOT but no go on that. I really just wanted to right him a nice note about ped. rights and cross walks and remind him to vote for mayor. But they would not give the info to me, something about stalking. Dang. Anyway, any ideas? Ann M.
