Regarding airports...LAB put this out recently:

Oberstar a Hero in Airport Story

(Excerpted from a story by Doug Grow, Minneapolis Star Tribune)
Paul Caspersen, whose old Raleigh bicycle was cut to pieces after he couldn't find a legal place to park it at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in July, got two big gifts last week. First, he got his old Raleigh back. A group of Twin Cities three-speed bike enthusiasts cut, spliced and salvaged the parts needed to put the 40-pound bike back together. But there was much more. At a news conference, U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar said that two words would be added to the next Federal Aviation Administration trust fund: "Bicycle storage," Oberstar said of the addition he vows to make to the $3.5 billion fund. That means airports will be able to apply for grants from the fund to build places to ride and park bikes safely. "I'm betting the first applicant will be the Twin Cities airport," said Oberstar, the 16-term congressman, who was re-elected last week. To read more about the story, click here.

This is one of my major pet peeves with the Dane County Airport. I can more easily get to O'Hare than to our own airport. And from my house - only a 15 minute drive, a cab is $25! I can take the Van Galder to Chicago for that. And none of the hotels downtown will allow people to ride their shuttle unless you are a guest, even if you pay them. And the "remote" parking has no shuttle and is hell-and-gone away from the terminal, so if it is raining or you have extra luggage, you really don't want to walk there.

Might I suggest that anyone who really wants to make some progress on this contact the county Airport Commission? http://www.co.dane.wi.us/commissions/airport_com.htm

Metro will only provide better service if the county pays for it. Kathleen Falk has always made a big deal out of trying to increase traffic at Dane County Airport, but since getting out there is such a pain, I rarely use it.

Given they want more parking at the airport, I decided the check out the bus service to the airport. Looks like only route 24 services the airport and it just comes from the N. transfer point (no direct route from the square):

Also, 24 does not run on holidays and weekends. So would a few million buy "real" bus service to the airport so we could skip the extra parking?
