The days of general public access to on line crash reports are done as PD has restricted access. They are in the process of changing their procedures so that eventually people will have to know the name of the insurance company and the document number in order to get the reports on line. Putting the reports on line was set up as a way to make life easier for PD staff as well as the parties directly involved. There are about 5,000 reported crashes each year. If you figure at least two interested parties per crash that's a lot of inquiries, copying and mailing for PD staff. What they found is that some attorneys were practicing a high tech version of ambulance chasing by checking the reports and calling people involved looking for business. This understandably irritated a lot of folks hence the restrictions. Steve Meiers Safety educator (608) 267-1102 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
