This is a classic example of where a front-view mirror would have made a difference. :)
What can you do to minimize the chances of this happing again? How about creating path side signs ever 40 feet that read "Are your eyes open?" or "Watch for others not traveling at the same rate as you are". Seriously there could have been a 1000 factors which may have contributed to this incident and creating a activism to prevent individuals from being run into from behind by a cyclist is just goofy. The incident was unfortunate and it could have been much worse. The incident you discribed does not necessarily give bicyclists a bad reputation. If the bicyclist was rude or did not stop to assist that would provide the means for a bad reputation. But if the bicyclist was genuinely sorry for causing the incident and assisted this person within their means that would not. How about we start a thread on whether or not walkers should wear helmets and use rear-view mirrors. ----- Original Message ---- From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, July 2, 2007 8:30:19 AM Subject: [Bikies] SW Bike Path - Pedestrian Injury A bicyclist rode into the back of an 80-year old women on the SW Corridor path between Midvale Blvd. and Odana Rd. last Tuesday (6/26). The women (who I talked to because she is my neighbor) was knocked down and suffered a dislocated finger. She was hit from behind in broad daylight - about 9:00 AM. The police were called and an ambulance came to the scene. (I've looked but haven't been able to find the police report on the incident yet.) How does a bicyclist riding a bike path in the same direction fail to see a pedestrian directly in front of them in time to avoid plowing into them? This gives us all a bad reputation. What can we do to minimize the chances of this happening again?
