Did anyone ride the east rail bike path today? If so, did they make any
progress in removing the windrows at cross streets?

A lot of the local streets (the ones that make the best neighborhood
cut-thru routes) are still very icy. But I agree that streets like
Winnebago and Willy street are in pretty good shape (one lane is ice
free, the other has some degree of ice).

Handling this storm was a tough call for city staff I am sure.
Interestingly, I happened to shovel my sidewalk at about 8:30pm on
Saturday, wondering if I'd wake up to a sheet of ice, and the next day I
was pleasantly surprised that the pavement was DRY. Had the City plowed
the bike paths at 8:30pm, I'd bet they would be dry too. However, city
policy (on weekdays at least) is to plow the paths at 5am.

Ice is no fun for anybody!

Maybe. But most major car streets and even minor ones (Wilson St., for
instance) are completely snow- and ice-free, while all of our
(bicyclists') major streets have major impediments, notably impassable
(without walking your bike over them), ice-covered, and hazardous
windrows. Why are you always sticking up for the motorist, Steve?
