will help the Bike Fed make Wisconsin an even better place to bicycle. 

The Outreach Coordinator will be the communications link between the Bike Fed 
and cyclists, bike clubs, bike shops and allied groups throughout Wisconsin. 
The position will also communicate information about the Bike Fed’s outstanding 
education and advocacy programs to stakeholders throughout Wisconsin. Because 
this is a new position, the right candidate will have the ability to help the 
Bike Fed’s Executive Director shape the outreach program. 

Salary range is $30,000 to $35,000 depending on experience. Job location within 
Wisconsin can be flexible, but direct supervisor is located in Madison, WI. 
Must have the availability to travel throughout the state at least 50% of work 
time. Health insurance benefits, vacation, sick leave and flexible work

Experience in bicycle education and/or advocacy or prior employment with a 
non-profit organization is preferred. Enthusiasm about bicycling is a must!

Bicycle Federation of WI – Outreach Coordinator 

Position: 
The Outreach Coordinator travels the state, uniting cyclists, bike clubs, bike 
shops and allied groups to support the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin’s 
mission to make Wisconsin a better place to bicycle. The primary goal of the 
Outreach Coordinator is to strengthen and enlarge the BFW’s grassroots 
foundation across Wisconsin. 

This position reports to the Deputy Director and is based in the BFW’s Madison 
office. 
Must be a cycling enthusiast and support all forms of bicycling, including 
transportation and recreation cycling. 

This is a salaried, full-time position. 

Job duties: 

* Work with and support bicycle advocates and educators outside of the Madison 
and Milwaukee areas, conveying information about the BFW’s programs to 
advocates and educators and providing in-put from them to the BFW staff. 
* Assist the Executive Director and Deputy Director in developing annual work 
plans for the BFW’s Outreach Program. 
* Work with staff to communicate information about the BFW’s outstanding 
education and advocacy programs statewide. 
* Represent the BFW and its mission to regional audiences – to be the “face” of 
the BFW in the areas of the state where it does not have offices. 
* Assist the Deputy Director in preparing news releases and establishing a 
statewide media network for distribution of news releases. 
* Recruit organizational (i.e., bike clubs, bike shops, chambers of commerce, 
etc.) members of the BFW. 
* Organize and staff meetings of stakeholders at various locations throughout 
the state. 
* Assist the Deputy Director with planning and conducting BFW events, including 
events in the Madison area. 
* Work with established retailers to sell BFW-branded products and services. 
* Facilitate formation of a grassroots network to support the BFW’s advocacy 
and educational programs. 
* Be involved in fundraising efforts, as requested by the Executive Director 
and/or Deputy. 

Skills/abilities: 

* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively 
communicate with media, members and potential members of the BFW, volunteers, 
and stakeholders. 
* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision. 
* Understanding of basic bicycle and pedestrian advocacy. 
* Ability to persuade and convince individuals and groups to join the BFW’s 
grassroots network of cycling education and advocacy supporters. 
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
* Ability to implement and operate a network of retail sales outlets. 
* Dedication to the BFW’s mission: Making Wisconsin a Better Place to Bicycle. 

Education and/or experience: 

* B.S. degree is desirable. Discipline could be in communications, marketing, 
business administration or related field. 
* 2-5 years experience working with a not-for-profit organization or in a sales 
or communications position is highly desirable. 
* Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: journalism, 
advocacy, sales or marketing. 
* Experience working with or on a volunteer Board of Directors is desirable. 
Work environment/physical demands: 
* This position requires the ability to talk and hear. Must be able to get to 
fourth-floor office without benefit of an elevator. 
* A significant amount of travel within the State of Wisconsin will be 
required; must be willing and able to travel. 
* Must be able to transport boxes of printed materials, weighing up to 50 
pounds, from location to location, necessitating the ability to lift up to 50
