The survey link is half way down the first screen. There is some mention of a potential trail pass requirement for hikers and trail walkers. At the end is a space for comments, such as, but not limited to: A. If a trail pass were required for hiking, there should be a hiking-only pass available. It should cost much less than the current Biking, Skiing, etc. trail pass, because it appears hikers create much less disturbance to the trail surface and don't require snow grooming or pavement. If a person purchased a hiking-only pass and later realized they want to continue using trails in winter for skiing, or to accompany a cycling friend, they should be able to turn in their hiking pass for full purchase value credit towards the purchase of a full-use pass. *** B. I disagree with allowing motorized uses on state trails. Motorized uses preclude enjoyment of nearly all the natural resources values of a trail corridor. Quiet and motor exhaust-free public lands and trail corridors are in relatively very short supply, given our ever-growing human population. Such "quiet sport" values and uses are rarely ever provided at commercial recreation sites, with a few commercial ski trail systems being the exception. Therefore these motorized uses should be supplied by private lands at club or for-profit locations. All public areas should be restricted solely to non-motorized uses. Motorized uses only serve to perpetuate unhealthy life habits among their practitioners, while also serving to promote the release, during the period of use, of more CO2 and particulate pollutants than are released by non-motor trails users in the act of traveling to the trails. This makes DNR an active participant in promoting activities that are contrary to existing Governor's initiatives regarding energy conservation and public health.
