Dear Group,

Reply to WPR, Wausau Police and "Saager",-----GOOD GRIEF! That is what is not
needed--another grant for more police writing tickets for JayWalking, skate
boards, and bike riding. Maybe funding comes under "homeland
security"--doesn't everything these days? Views on this
topic in Bikies have been all over the place it seems to me. Sidewalks are
mostly for CHILDREN. Except maybe on the Istmas there are neighborhood stores?
But the days of cities with all the individual stores on the "boulevards" and
in walking distance to their trade passed
away after WWII. But children need sidewalks. And when children begin riding
bikes they need sidewalks. But who are "old children" vs young children, etc.,
and what about skate boards, inlines, scooters, etc., which are used by those
of any age.

The only solution I can see is stop WRITING TICKETS. But don't improve the
sidewalks, making them defacto bike lanes. Just allow bikes on them if people
wish. The faster bikes will remain in the streets except at impossible
sections. The sidewalks will have raised sections
with tree roots and other imperfections--(that is if the cities and towns don't
fine everybody for raised blocks.) So, the situation will just work out.
Children, runners, starter bikes, etc., will share sidewalks and the fast bike
commuters and those working up a cardio
sweat will just naturally gravitate to the streets.
