I just watched the clip and it seems like he lumps bicycling with recreation as
opposed to lifestyle choice to ease financial and land use burdens in the urban
environment.
The response to that is to prove that cycling is not just for Sunday afternoon
recreation.

But beyond just getting bike paths inserted in the infrastructure mix, what
will our transportation modes be in 20 to 30 to 40 years from now? If we don't
know exactly, what plans are we making to make the transportation
infrastructure able to make adaptations as transportation changes?

I see a mix of big and small motored vehicles (fuel/power to be determined) as
well as pedal power bi, tri, and quad cycles in local transportation. I think
adaptability should be a major design consideration in future planning, whether
or not there is "bail-out" for whoever.

Just my two cents.
