A few years ago (2001?) in early spring I drove my car to Madeline Island from Bayfield, WI on a path across the ice lined with Christmas Trees. They plowed the ice road regularly to keep it clear of snow. Not exactly a bike path, but I suppose it would be possible to bike that ice road.

Some info from http://activerain.com/blogsview/378181/We-Have-an-Ice
"Call Windsled Transportation and Rescue in La Pointe, Wisconsin, for information on the condition and status of the "ice road". The Ice Road Hotline phone number is 715-747-5400. "

Has anyone heard of any bike-friendly northern cities (Minneapolis?) that have created seasonal bike trails on frozen lakes or rivers? Thanks, CL
