Interesting, indeed.  

 

An alternative detour would be to get on the SW path at Mills St.  If you
need to get back to the University Ave. corridor, you can take Breese
Terrace, or cut through the paths in Camp Randall.

 

Not exactly a direct route, but not too bad, under the circumstances.
