Not so fast.  Neither you nor I were at the pedestrian stings.  I would expect that a "cross-walk" person must be totally out of the crosswalk--not just out of the line of traffic.  And the sting might have been conducted on that basis.--------So, wait for the sting about bicycles stopping on empty streets with stop signs---empty of anything--but a hiding police person.  Would you then claim there should be baseball bats for hitting bicycles?

"As a pedestrian decoy for the Madison Police Department, Officer Derrick Jones has had close encounters with many vehicles whose drivers failed to stop for him as he crossed busy city streets during targeted enforcement operations.

But Jones had just gotten off duty on Sept. 11 and was walking to his vehicle when he was hit in the middle of a crosswalk".

"So far this year, the TEST unit has issued 95 citations to drivers for failing to yield to a pedestrian, most resulting from enforcement operations, Tripke said."

Just 95 this year? I bet they could get 95 in a single day!

At the risk of sounding extremist, I will reiterate my suggestion that we replace those 'red flags' at intersections with baseball bats.
