I believe Metro buses also have forward looking cameras, however I have
no idea how long they keep the tapes and what it takes (a police order?)
to get a look at them.
I copied Metro on the e-mail on the off chance they want to look into
this. A serious allegation in my opinion.

Paul,
That's Observatory Dr - a UW street (and crosswalk), not City of Madison
jurisdiction.
I've already emailed Ms. KamalRossa off-list to ask her if she recalls
anything more about the van that could identify it. We (UW Transportation
Services) think that it was a shuttle van operated by the Hospital (to take
employees to the medical school) over which we (UW Transportation Services)
have no control. We have, however, had an opportunity to provide bicycle and
pedestrian training to the Hospital staff in the past, and it sounds like
it's time to revisit that.
But of course it doesn't hurt to remind people about the report-a-problem
website for problems that are actually in the city of Madison.
Thanks,
chuck

I am in a wheelchair and today a UW transport van wasn't going stop
while I was crossing in a crosswalk by the Nat and on Friday last week
a metro bus didn't stop while I was attempting to cross. I had to stop
in the middle of the crosswalk and wait for the bus. The driver didn't
even slow down. I backed up in my wheelchair and was worried that
traffic from the other side would start going...
I am not sure of a baseball bat but I would love video or phone camera
that could be uploaded quickly to the police dept.

Not so fast. Neither you nor I were at the pedestrian stings. I
would expect that a "cross-walk" person must be totally out of the
crosswalk--not just out of the line of traffic. And the sting might

about bicycles stopping on empty streets with stop signs---empty of
anything--but a hiding police person. Would you then claim there
should be baseball bats for hitting bicycles?

Just 95 this year? I bet they could get 95 in a single day!
At the risk of sounding extremist, I will reiterate my suggestion
that we replace those 'red flags' at intersections with baseball
bats.
