=v= I think the sharrow is still in the experimental stage.
I've been to a number of cities that have deployed them, and
I'm not sure they've got all the bugs out, but it's useful to
have something to point to when a clueless motorist tells me
to pull over and/or ride on the sidewalk.

=v= In theory a sharrow should be far enough out into the shared
lane, outside the door zone, to indicate that the bicyclist has
the right to take the entire lane. Between that and the lack of
lane delineations, its meaning shouldn't be that hard to figure
out. (Of course, it doesn't help when city workers put sharrows
in door zones and bike lanes.)
