New Yorkers, as we all probably know, don't drive very much (though they don't bike all that much either; bikes have a 1.2% share). If they did drive as much as most Americans, they would spend an extra $19 billion on transportation, and they'd need to pave about 25 square miles somewhere to put all those extra cars. (Manhattan itself is around 25 square miles, so it might be hard to find that space).
