Although he told me privately that he thought it was a good idea, I was afraid it would all get lost in the hassle of building a new downtown parking facility. But now he's said it in his blog, so I guess we can hold hi8m to it.
I suggested a bike station in the Government East ramp rebuild when I was still on the Council. The ramp is falling apart, and I knew they would be replacing it. There were several plans for how and where to do that, but any of them involved building from the ground up. We desperately need more bicycle parking in that areas - ask anyone who works at the GEF buildings - and this would be the perfect place for it. A few years ago, I spoke to one of the City Attorneys, and she told me that, as long as the parking was paid for by the users, there was nothing keeping non-motorized parking from being included in the Parking Utility. Bike stations often have memberships, or hourly or daily fees to park, so that would qualify. I am thrilled that this is finally part of the official public discussion. It's on the Mayor's blog, so now we can hold him to it. http://www.cityofmadison.com/mayor/blog/index.cfm?Id=324 Robbie Webber Bike Walk Madison Steering Committee www.bikewalkmadison.org Join our group on Facebook! _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
