******************************************* Unfortunately the issue of bikes on high-speed rail was discussed/addressed, but not included in the final report. The closest in the report is: Support efforts to improve bike access on/in inter-city buses. Details: On any bus, boxing a bicycle may not be ideal if one is intending to travel/tour primarily by bicycle, because the boxes are large and cannot be stowed on a bicycle while riding. Bicycle advocacy groups may seek to meet and discuss this issue in the future with the bus companies and city support would be valuable. I would expect the city and the Mayor to take a strong lead on the issue. But now he's said it in his blog, so I guess we can hold hi8m to it. I suggested a bike station in the Government East ramp rebuild when I was still on the Council. The ramp is falling apart, and I knew they would be replacing it. There were several plans for how and where to do that, but any of them involved building from the ground up. We desperately need more bicycle parking in that areas - ask anyone who works at the GEF buildings - and this would be the perfect place for it. A few years ago, I spoke to one of the City Attorneys, and she told me that, as long as the parking was paid for by the users, there was nothing keeping non-motorized parking from being included in the Parking Utility. Bike stations often have memberships, or hourly or daily fees to park, so that would qualify. I am thrilled that this is finally part of the official public discussion.
