Correction:

The new road that I referenced below actually is where the path goes under
VERONA ROAD, not the Beltline. Sorry about that.

For those familiar with this area - which I assume is most on this list -
this is the location south of Home Depot, and just before the path goes
under Verona Rd and next to Allied Dr. You can see Bennett's off to the
right, as you travel south, and you cross a street that goes between the
Meadowwood Neighborhood and the Home Depot/former Cubs complex.

That little road is Freepont, and it is very low traffic right now. However,
the Wis DOT would like to build another road to "relieve congestion." My
fear is that this will bring a LOT of traffic onto Freeport, including lots
of turning traffic across the path.

If you are worried about this, or any other aspect of the plan, you need to
speak up to both the DOT, and to City Engineering, who is heavily involved
in the planning. If you cannot come to the meeting tonight, there will also
be a presentation at the Long Range Transportation Planning Committee,
Thursday, October 21, 5:00 PM in the Municipal Bldg - Rm TBA.

Sorry for the confusion about the location of the new road. I was writing
quickly last night (and under the influence of medication.)

In case you would like to weigh in one the design for Verona Rd, there will
be another (and I think final) public meeting Wednesday night at Cherokee
Middle School. There is a also an afternoon session at the Boys and Girls
Club.

Note also this item in the third paragraph from the end:
"a new underpass at Freeport Road that will increase traffic through the
neighborhood. "

This new underpass would be where the SW Path currently goes under the
Beltline. The path would be relocated to the side of the road. This would
mean significantly more traffic in the area, and I fear, a dangerous
situation where Freeport crosses the path - currently mostly used by a few
people going to Home Depot.
