Thanks, Sean for the confirmation. I used to bike through that intersection quite a bit, but now take a different route, so didn't realize that intersection also had a green arrow. Is that new, or has it always been there? I know the Orchard St light is new, but were there changes to the Randall light as well, or have I not noticed the arrow in the past? (I have little reason to make a left there, even when driving my car, so maybe I just never noticed it.)
Yes, unfortunately, many bicyclists run red lights. And many don't use lights, which also could have been a factor, even if he had a green. I'm not going to get into a flame war about running the red, except to say that I have found that bad habits are hard to break, and I have almost gotten nailed a couple of times by getting in the habit of rolling certain stop signs "because there's never any traffic." Well, once in awhile there IS traffic... Regardless, hitting the windshield hard enough to break it is never good. Let's hope the bicyclist is going to be OK.
