I don't think people really object to occasional notices about events that are
not strictly bike-related.  Personally, I don't object to postings about Tea
Party rallies, as long as they're within biking distance of Madison.  If I'm
bored, I might actually go and watch from across the street.  (I have to say,
though, that a Tea Party "walk" is unlikely, and a "ride" is unthinkable.)

But people do object to longwinded, off-topic political discussions that fill
up their mailboxes.  When one of those break out, people start unsubscribing.
This list is unmoderated, so people are on the honor system to respect its
purpose.

(And I hope this doesn't turn into one of those longwinded discussions.  I
don't intent to post again on this topic.)

All right--you invited notices for Tea Party rallying and other political
walks, rides, and gatherings.  Just remember that when all the incensed
"listserv members" start posting, asking just how they might stop all e-mail to
their listed address.  After all--the Tea Party is non-political, endorsing no
particular parties.

Think about it, Eric, unless you're riding on private land or deciding what
kind of new clothes to get for fashionable spring riding, there is little about
cycling that is completely removed from the political process.

Please consider joining us in this walk from the First Unitarian Society to our
Capitol in support of reason and compassion.

I'm forwarding this message to you from my friend, Lauri Schwartz. Lauri is the
mother of one of our Girl Scouts, a member of the First Unitarian Society, and
a Madison Police Dept. Sargent. She has secured a city permit and scouted the
2.93 mile route of the march (see map link below) to minimize street crossings,
bad stretches of ice, and to avoid going over Bascom Hill!

Please forward the message to anyone you think might be interested; friends,
neighbors, co-workers, church members.

I know we can all use a great group 'walk and talk'. So far, Tuesday's weather
forecast looks spectacular! Mostly sunny and 38 during the day, low of 18
during the night. Feel free to join us en-route.
