If we really want to talk about what is or isn't appropriate, never mind
whether the original post was or was not sufficiently bicycle-related or
of sufficient general interest to list members to merit inclusion on the
list. That's almost always going to be a grey area. Let's look instead
at ethical conduct.

It's possible that I might have missed something, that perhaps my email
provider has not yet received some messages and maybe a couple other
messages will eventually be received out of chronological sequence, but
I do not see any messages to the list on this thread from either Jeff
Schimpff or Larry Nelson. Did anyone see original replies to this
bikies thread from those two people?

Yet, somehow, text of messages attributed to those two people appears
quoted in two of Eric W's posts to bikies. One of the fundamental
principles of email etiquette is that private messages between/among two
or more members of a list should remain private between/among the
specific participants, and not be reposted publicly to the entire list
without permission of the parties involved. If Jeff and Larry replied
privately to Eric and did not include the bikies list as a recipient in
their replies, then Eric was not entitled to repost publicly the private
replies without their permission.

To Eric or anyone else, if you receive an off-list reply to something
you posted to the list, keep your subsequent exchanges off-list as well.
You don't have the right to tack on bikies as an additional recipient of
your reply to a private exchange if the other party has not explicitly
consented. For one reason or another, each of them chose not to post
their replies publicly, perhaps simply not to clutter the list, perhaps
for other reasons. Please respect their choices. That's all I care to
say on the matter.
