The Bike Fed is considering having a " Coolest lit bike" contest at the Saris
Gala. Creative folks might think of ways of using this wire for the contest.

I've been using EL wire like this on my bike for years at Burning Man. It does
a great job of letting people know where your bike is, comes in all sorts of
colors, and can be set to blink as well. I even use some on my commuter bike
once it starts getting dark out.

I wouldn't use it as a sole source of light, but I think it does a good job of
catching the eye and since it's "different" it may do a better job of getting
people to watch out for your bike. If you're interested in trying it out, just
google "el wire". I didn't see the price for this stuff, but I'm confident you
can find it cheaper at someplace that isn't selling it as a bike specific
accessory.

I think I saw one the other day, at Reynolds Park -- it was attached to a bunch
of heart-shaped balloons at the Occupy Madison encampment. It was was after
dark, of course, and the light was pretty impressive.

But I'd have mixed feelings about using it as a bike light. If one or two
bikes had it, they'd be very visible. If EVERY bike had Bike Glow, the visual
noise might make it hard to make out an individual bike. And that could be
dangerous.

Interesting pics

but it almost looks too novel to be really effective, though I suppose
along w/ a set of "real" lights blinking away, you might still look
like a bike and not a UFO or something.
