Since public comments are closed on the environmental impact statements for
this project, are there any processes available to the public that can
result in project changes at this late date?

In other words, can someone explain if the "public input" will result in
actual changes to the project at this point, or are these meetings only
promotional and informational? (I use "informational" loosely; the project's
immediate impacts will be described I'm sure, but the larger social impacts
are, like so many huge road projects, simply not up for review.)

While I did provide detailed written commentary to the supplemental
environmental impact study, I did not go to the public meeting in Fitchburg
May 17 and haven't planned on attending the open house meetings (a couple of
these still coming up):
• Wednesday, June 6, 5 to 8 p.m. Upper Iowa State University, 4601
Hammersley Road
• Wednesday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Boys and Girls Club, 4619 Jenewein
Road
The above have a goal "to promote public understanding of the Verona
Road/Beltline Interchange project and project outreach" (see
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/opencms/export/nr/modules/news/news_3117.html_7
86229440.html). The meeting in Fitchburg was described in the press release
to "provide input and ask questions" (see
http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/opencms/export/nr/modules/news/news_3292.html_7
86229440.html).

Besides heavy impacts on "alternate routes" like Seminole Highway, the
project will be removing a pedestrian/bicycle overpass and replacing said
overpass; I guess I should go and find out if an "alternate route" will be
available for this pedestrian crossing of the beltline during demolition and
reconstruction. But I don't want to waste my time providing "input" if
nothing will come of it.

Thank you.

Bikers have been asking how it's going to work for them when the Verona Road
project is underway since Seminole Highway is going to be a major alternate
route for cars. I'm hoping that some bikers will be at the meeting tonight
at the Fitchburg Library, starting at 5:00. Info about the project can be
found at
