The construction will impact 3 north-south bike routes during Stage 1
(2014-2016). This is based on my memory of last week's meeting, so I
may have some of this wrong.
* The Southwest Path - Carling Drive will be extended, and it will
intersect the SW path. A portion of the SW Path will be rebuilt at the
intersection.
I think Carling will eventually connect with Allied Drive, but I can't
find it on the project site.
* The Whenona Drive overpass will be rebuilt. It will be closed for
about a month, as I recall.
* The Seminole highway bridge where it crosses the beltline will be
rebuilt. I don't know how long that will take.
I think it was Ald. Steve Arnold who asked that these projects be
coordinated so that at least one of these be open at a time, and staff
said that was already in the plans. Yay.
At this point, however, the actual date of each of these projects is
not scheduled. I suspect it would be a good idea to verify all this
when we get closer to construction time.
The SW path bridge over the Beltline is supposed to remain as is.
Another potential impact for bicyclists - Seminole Hwy will see an
increase in traffic during the entire Stage 1 and Stage sections, as
motorists seek to avoid the Beltline interchange.
