Thank you Patrick for mentioning this. I was just about to post that
this happens about 75% of the time that I use any kind of vocal notice;
must be some kind of neuro-linguistic programmed response to the word
"left" (no pun intended...). The bell seems to have the opposite effect
most of the time; the pedestrian may look back, but s/he'll move _away_
from the sound. There's fodder for a psychology Master's thesis in there
somewhere....
