While the data makes it look like taxis are "the enemies of bikes and peds" another article highlighted that taxis make up a bit over 40% of the vehicles in motion in the study area, 40% of the bike injuries, and 25% of ped injuries. So the taxis aren't any more likely to cause a bike injury than they would be expected to be, and are actually safer for peds than other vehicles on the street.

One of the more interesting results- arguably flying in the face of Mayor Bloomberg's jihad against Big Soda- is that fat folk fare favourably in collisions- it's all physics, baby. They also look at a raft of victim behaviours, such as use of electronic devices, alcohol, and time of day. Taxicabs and food delivery services are the apparent natural enemies of cyclists. A chilling limitation of the dataset: those who died at the scene weren't treated and therefore weren't counted. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/03/nyregion/study-details-injuries-to-pedestrians-and-cyclists-in-new-york-city.html?pagewanted=all or http://goo.gl/sc0cC -- Scott M.
