The other thing to keep in mind is that Madison TE has already drafted proposed crossing improvements for the Capital City Path in this stretch: http://www.cityofmadison.com/council/district/districtfiles/district6/documents/dp2012_CapitalCityPath_Blair-Waubesa-Draft.pdf
Pages 7&8 show the stretch from Jackson St through Waubesa. This section of the CCP does not currently support the high volume traffic on the path. Plans to improve this include table top crossings and adding Stop signs for cross traffic. This will do wonders for path traffic through this corridor, especially bikes. You can see in the draft proposal that Jackson St. does not receive Stop signs for cross traffic. I believe this is due to the very short distances from both St. Paul and Atwood to the path crossing and that putting a Stop there could likely cause MV accidents. Closing Jackson to MV traffic would be a great solution to this problem. It would also connect a nice (small) green space west of Jackson with the community gardens, Chocolate Shoppe, Cafe Zoma, Revolution Cycles, etc. It would also help with the cut-through traffic that uses Jackson-St. Paul-Waubesa-Milwaukee. I used to live on the corner there and it's always been a bit of a race track. If you come through this stretch with any frequency, consider coming to the meeting to voice your support.
