A bridge might be the long-term solution. For right now, I'd suggest a
stoplight.

The answer is infrastructure. Bridges, tunnels. Yes, this stuff costs money,
but what is human life worth?

I agree with Matthew. I don't know if the answer will be signage per se, but we
do need to figure out how to better prevent this type of collision.
What lessons were learned from this tragedy?
For starters, the speed limit needs to be adjusted for this type of crossing.
It sounds like if the cyclists stopped, checked both directions and went that
the auto traffic goes too fast to accommodate a safe crossing.
And of course the long game is to have people driving cars be expecting
cyclists to be at these types of crossings even if they aren't always there.
What else do you all suggest? Now is the time to brainstorm since the need for
improvement has so tragically been brought to our attention.
I bow my head in sadness and will be thinking of young Emily Zhu as I bicycle
this summer. My heart also goes out to the driver who was caught unaware and
has to live with being involved in Emily's tragic death for the rest of his
life.

I am very saddened to hear that the woman involved with the Raymond Road
bike-car accident has died.
These kinds of accidents are so preventable. I am disappointed that more
attention isn't afforded to accommodating/recognizing all forms of travel and
--at the least-- incorporating better signage to modify some behaviors.

There are many scary roadway crossings in my neck of the woods which need to be
examined and altered. I'm afraid there will continue to be these horrible
accidents until we look at these intersections as a place where two legitimate
modes of travel meet and appropriate infrastructure is built as a response.
