Today was the first day the scheduled closing of Eau Claire Avenue between Regent Street and Old Middleton Road that will be in place until September. The recommendation for bicyclists is to use Whitney Way, which has a bicycle lane. Normally, switching to Whitney Way as an alternate would not be a big deal. What I didn't anticipate was the additional volume of traffic - both buses and cars - that would also be detouring on the same route. It was challenging, but the folks in cars and especially the bus drivers were exceptionally attentive and courteous. It was tight in a few places and they gave me lots of extra time and distance. I'm not sure how this is going to work out longer term - but for now the detour is doable - but you need to be exceptionally careful.
