Aha!  Thanks to both of you -- this does in fact work.  That said, I
think I'll wait for 1.2.7 before deploying this; lord only knows how
many other of my users are using mutt, and I'd prefer not to have to
tweak them all by hand.

But if you'd like someone to test a patch for this ahead of a 1.2.7
release, I'm your man. :)
