Which DjB principles exactly? ;-) DjB's "make setup check" (install? uninstall/deinstall?), nughde_get.. No, the /package system doesn't cohere with anything, and only DjB'ers find it natural. Postfix users with Maildir delivery would pull their hair if Binc started doing something like that. I agree that placing everything under PREFIX by default is a very natural structure for most unix tarball packages. Replacing autoconf is not something I put much time into considering, because although it's clumsy to use when writing tests, and also very macro driven and so on, it's also the most powerful configure tool I've experienced. Also the dependency system of automake works very well. So although it is interesting to look at other systems, I'm not in the urge to replace autoconf.
