Maybe all of this will change with the new configuration in Binc 1.3?
Andreas, what do you think?

In fact, Henry's suggestion could go into 1.2 under the argument that it's
a bug, and since it's 100% backwards compatible. The first unqualified
argument to Binc IMAP is the depot path. Qualified arguments must override
unqualified arguments though.

Perhaps it should be the last unqualified argument, since that is the one that is munged by checkvpw and the one used by auth_pop to autocreate the Maildir.

This feature would appear invisible to anyone (like me) who don't like the
idea of rewriting arguments, but it would keep 100% compatibility with
vmailmgr and qmail-pop3d, which is very important. So all win, no lose.

I'll try to see how little we can change in 1.2.7 to get away with a fix
like this; perhaps we can get it into 1.2.8.

Sounds good to me. I am starting to be convinced that this is the better approach. I would go so far as to make the default xinetd/run files use Maildir on the command line so that there is the least amount of surprise when substituting another authentication program.

Finally, I think that path option should be removed from the config file for 1.3 (to remove the confusion of having it set in two different places). Similary for the --mailpath= command option. I think that this is necessary to maintain the principal of least surprise given the interface supplied by qmail-popd.
