that's a known problem with thunderbird.
Thunderbird tries to create a ROOT LEVEL imap folder called "Sent", which, if
you're using maildir++ you cannot do (folders must be subfolders of INBOX),
and then it hangs from there.
Either change your thunderbird settings (I have some screenshots around to do
this, but it's pretty simple to do, just go into account settings and then
click on "folder settings") so it uses a different folder, or switch to
IMAPdir (the latter is much more difficult)
This is in no way related to the bug Andreas was referring to in the post you
replied to.
If you need the screenshots, let me know, I'll dig them out and sanitize them
(they have actual customer information on them) and send them to you.
