Birders
Yesterday, after passsing a quiet afternoon at Pelee NP, I returned home by
driving along Concession Road E just north of the park out of habit. To my
surprise, an immature Yellow-crowned Night-Heron presented itself in the
drainage ditch south of the road and just north of the park. This bird
obliged me by sitting quite still while I checked him out (and he fished).
He even flew a little bit so that I could verify that he had all the
distinguishing features including long, sticking-out legs, that separate
Yellow-crowneds from Black-crowneds. This, after seeing the Glossy Ibis
hours before in Wheatley. The fall diaspora is full of nice surprises.
Must fly
