Late this afternoon/early evening there were 4 Short-eared Owls on Earl
Armstrong Rd, south of the airport. There were also 3 deer and 2 or 3 foxes
calling!

Up at the pond on the same road were about 85 Common Mergansers and 10
Hooded Mergansers along with 3 American Black Ducks, 2 Greater Black-backed
Gulls and a Herring Gull.

Earl Armstrong Rd runs east-west between High Rd (off Albion Rd by the
raceway) at the eastern end and River Rd at the west end. The section with
the owls is between Limebank and Bowesville Rds. The best place is just
part way west from the "s" curve, looking in a northwesterly direction.
The best time is dusk, just as it is getting dark, with a lit sky to back
light the birds. They tend to fly low over the fields and wheel up and down
as they go.

The pond is east of Bowesville near a farm.

Cheers, Eve
