Hello, I was south of our airport, on Earl Armstrong Rd, this afternoon after work and found 2 Short-eared Owls around 5:10 pm, after a wait as dusk comes later now (Yes!). The first one came out of nowhere right over my car and followed a ditch along the road. It veered to the filed there and caught a small rodent. It proceeded to eat it bit by bit while on a fence post. Then it flew across the road and was then joined by a second owl. At this point it was too dark to se if any others were around.
A bit earlier in the same location was a male Northern Harrier who flew to an open area just north of the road and settled down in the grass and wasn't seen again. A flock of 60 Snow Buntings also were in the same area, and disappeared. Earl Armstrong Rd runs east off Limebank Rd and west off High Rd.
